Knowing what to do in case of an avalanche may save your life. When there are people trapped under the snow, every second counts. However, an efficient intervention is not possible without proper equipment and basic knowledge of avalanche rescue. What should be done in such a situation and what type of equipment should a person have while mountain hiking in winter? This is the knowledge which our Clients received during the avalanche safety training course that took place last Thursday in Karpacz. It was supervised by two GOPR rescuers as well as experienced and renowned Himalayan mountaineers. At the beginning of the course, the participants familiarized themselves with the rescue equipment, including: avalanche detectors (PIEPS), avalanche probes and avalanche shovels. The Guests also learned how and when to use these items during a simulated snow rescue. Their task was to find an avalanche detector buried under the snow. First, they had to locate it using an identical detector, determine the depth and exact location with a probe and dig it out with a shovel. As an additional attraction, we prepared four shooting stands with professional airguns and butts, as well as two archery stands.
